The heater core uses hot coolant to warm the air entering the cabin. If the heater core becomes restricted by debris or sludge, the air from the vents may stay lukewarm even when the engine is warm.

Myth: Coolant is only for winter

Myth: Coolant lasts forever
Some newer coolants have long service lives, but “long-life” does not mean “never needs attention.” Service intervals vary widely by vehicle, coolant type, mileage, and operating conditions.

Myth: The color tells you which coolant to use
Color is not a universal coolant language. Green, orange, blue, yellow, and pink coolants may use different additive technologies. Two fluids that look similar may not be compatible, and two fluids with different colors may not tell the full story either.
Use the coolant specification listed by the vehicle manufacturer: not a color-based guessing game.
Myth: Water alone is good enough
Water can transfer heat, but it does not provide the same freeze protection, boil-over protection, or corrosion resistance as the proper coolant mixture. Plain water may also promote rust and mineral buildup.
In an emergency, water may help you reach a safe location or repair shop. It should not be treated as a permanent replacement for the correct coolant.
Myth: A coolant flush fixes every overheating problem
A flush helps remove old fluid and contaminants, but overheating can also be caused by a thermostat, radiator, fan, water pump, hose, leak, head gasket, or electrical issue.
If your temperature gauge is climbing, the correct response is diagnosis: not simply adding more fluid and hoping the car develops better judgment.
How often should you get an engine cooling system flush?
There is no universal interval that fits every vehicle. Some models require coolant replacement after a few years, while others use long-life coolant designed to last much longer.
Use your owner’s manual as the primary guide. You should also ask for a cooling system inspection if:
